Midrand Montessori
High School
At Midrand Montessori High, we offer a Montessori-inspired high school experience where adolescents are known, valued, and supported as individuals. Our calm, inclusive environment helps young people develop confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of self.
Drawing on both the Montessori and Cambridge curricula and registered with the IEB, we prepare students for the demands of modern life and further study. Technology is used thoughtfully to build collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, equipping students for the realities of the fourth industrial revolution.

About
Midrand
Montessori
High School

Midrand Montessori High strives to nurture an enthusiastic, creative, and inclusive environment built on respect, support, and diversity. Students learn in a calm, welcoming space where they are seen as individuals and encouraged to grow into confident, responsible young adults.
A Supportive and Inclusive High School Environment
Our team of Montessori Directresses and Directors offer a broad and balanced education in a supportive and stimulating setting. They guide students with care, build strong relationships, and work closely with families to create a close-knit school community.
Montessori and Cambridge-Aligned Curriculum
Our curriculum embraces a wide spectrum of learning by utilising the Montessori curriculum in alignment with the Cambridge curriculum. This combination offers students a rich, rigorous academic programme that supports different learning styles while maintaining clear standards and expectations.
Grounded in Montessori Principles
Our diverse approach to learning has adapted to 21st-century challenges while remaining rooted in our core Montessori philosophy. Students are encouraged to think independently, take ownership of their work, and develop the self-discipline they will carry into adulthood.
Our High School Programs
Grades 7 to 9

Senior Phase
The Senior Phase offers a guided and supportive transition into high school. Students begin to work with greater independence while still receiving close attention from teachers who understand the needs of early adolescence. This stage focuses on strengthening core academic skills, building confidence, and helping students adjust to new expectations.
Lessons are presented in small groups, allowing students to explore ideas more deeply, practise collaborative learning, and develop clearer organisation and study habits. The environment remains calm and structured, giving students the space to ask questions, make connections, and grow at their own pace.
By the end of Grade 9, students have a strong foundation for selecting their subjects for the FET Phase and stepping into the next stage of high school with assurance and maturity.
The Further Education and Training Phase (FET)
The FET Phase supports students in Grades 10 and 11 as they begin to specialise in their chosen subjects. This stage of high school requires increased focus, independence, and responsibility, and our teachers guide students through these expectations with care and structure.
Students work more deeply within each subject, learning to manage extended tasks, research projects, and formal assessments. The environment encourages clear thinking, good study habits, and meaningful engagement with challenging concepts.
By the end of the FET Phase, students have developed the academic maturity, confidence, and discipline needed to continue their studies in Grade 12 at their next chosen institution.
The following IGCSE, AS & A Level Subjects will be offered to students during the FET phase:
Mathematics or Math Core
English or English Literature
First Additional Language (Afrikaans or isiZulu)
Global Perspectives
Biology
Agriculture or Food & Nutrition
Chemistry

Exams are written twice a year either through the chosen curriculum supplier or an independent student may register and write at a registered Cambridge examination centre. Some private schools allow independent candidates to sit and write with their students. Alternatively, a candidate can write at the British Council in their hometown. For more information in this regard, send an email to ssa.enquiries@britishcouncil.org.za.
Exams are written in May/June and October/November each year. Cambridge charges a per-subject paper exam fee which needs to be paid in advance. There may be other fees in addition to this depending on where a candidate chooses to write the exam.
Cambridge = R30,000+ (approximately 3 years for IGCSE (typically done Gr 10) and AS-levels (typically done Gr 12). A-levels are not required by local universities. These are exam costs only and excludes textbooks, classes, laboratory work, tutor support etc.) est. R2300 p/subject
